Compress an image toward 100 KB

Aim for about 100 KB for a form or email cap. If the photo cannot get that small, you get the smallest honest JPEG and a note — not a fake exact size.

Indian job portals, exam forms and some email gateways still ask for a photo under 100 KB. This page is that job: quality comes down until the file is near 100 KB, or we stop and tell you it cannot be done without wrecking the picture.

The usual trick that fails is shrinking pixels to a postage stamp and calling it done. Here we re-encode JPEG (and may reduce dimensions if quality alone cannot hit the cap). The original stays on your disk until you replace it.

Compress Image to 100KB runs in this browser with Canvas. The file is not uploaded to imagecropx. Close the tab and the copy in memory is gone.

What 100 KB is for

100 KB is the common “upload photo” cap. A well-lit headshot usually survives. A dark 4000 px panorama may not.

Always read the form: some want JPEG only, some want exact pixels as well as KB.

How to use Compress Image to 100KB

  1. Choose a photo. Target is 100 KB.
  2. Process. Watch original vs new size in the preview.
  3. If the note says the target is impossible, crop or pick a smaller frame, then try again — do not keep slamming quality to zero.

Questions about this tool

Is the file guaranteed to be exactly 100 KB?

No. Encoders land near the cap. We do not pad junk bytes to fake an exact size.

Do you upload it to hit the size?

No. Compression is in the tab.

Does Compress Image to 100KB upload the file?

No. This tool runs in the tab. See Privacy for decoder notes (HEIC, PDF.js worker).

What is the file size cap?

About 25 MB per file. Very large pixel counts are rejected so the tab stays responsive.
